Skiing on the Etna
The facilities managed by Funivia dell’Etna allow to reach the ski slopes in winter, leave for excursions to the summit craters and enjoy the wonderful volcanic landscape.
The modern six seat gondola lift, which can accommodate up to 1,200 people per hour, starts from Rifugio Sapienza and reaches in a few minutes 2,500 m over the sea level. This position allows the access to the ski facilities in winter and the excursions to the summit craters all year round. From this altitude, in fact, depart the excursions by special off-road bus to the upper part of the volcano.
The two seat chairlift starts from 1,910 m and arrives to 2,142 m.
The skilift “Omino” starts from 2,125 m and arrives to 2,294 m.
The skilift “Montagnola” starts from 2,500 m and arrives to 2,604 m.
With the four facilities of Funivia dell’Etna it is possible to reach the main ski slopes at different altitudes:
– with the gondola lift it is possible to reach the slope “Piccolo rifugio” at 2,500 m (lenght of the slope 2,700 m – height difference 580 m – difficulty level: red);
– with the chairlift it is possible to reach 2,142m (lenght of the slope 865 m – difficulty level: red);
– with the skilift “Omino” it is possible to reach 2,294 m (lenght of the slope 1,992 m – difficulty level: red);
– the skilift “Montagnola” starts from 2,500 m and it is possible to reach 2,604 m.
